Mulching & Wood Chipping Ferntree Gully
On-site chipping of branches and prunings across Ferntree Gully, plus bulk mulch dropped to the driveway for garden beds and for holding bare slopes together in heavy rain.
Most Ferntree Gully customers find us one of two ways, either with a pile of branches they've cut themselves and can't shift, or with a landscaping job that needs cubic metres of mulch dropped onto the block. The chipper handles the first, the tipper handles the second, and we can do both in one visit if that suits.
For on-site chipping we bring the machine to your address and run anything up to about 200mm through it. That covers prunings from a weekend tidy-up, branches off a limb down after a storm, or the green waste left over from a paddock clear. The chip stays as a pile for you to use, or we load it back into the truck and take it off. Either way it beats trailer runs to the transfer station, and on a slope a chip layer slows the runoff that strips bare soil.
For bulk mulch we run three main lines, fresh hardwood chip off our own removals, good for paths, weed control and around established trees, aged composted mulch, broken down enough to feed beds and new plantings, and a dyed landscape mulch in red or black for the formal jobs where the look matters. Order by the cubic metre, dropped to the driveway across Ferntree Gully and the foothills. Spreading can go on the quote if you'd rather not barrow it yourself.

How big a branch can the chipper take?
Up to around 200mm clean through, which covers most prunings and storm material. Anything bigger we cut into chunks first, then run the smaller pieces through. Trunk wood thicker than that gets cut into rounds and either kept for firewood or quoted as a separate haul line if you want it gone.
What's the difference between fresh and aged mulch?
Fresh chip comes straight off the chipper after a removal, mostly hardwood, holds water and locks weeds down. It's good for paths, around established trees, and on a slope where you want the runoff slowed. Aged mulch has spent months in a heap breaking down, softer and darker, gentle enough for beds and new plantings where fresh chip would pull nitrogen out of the soil for a while.
How much mulch should I order?
For a 75 to 100mm layer over a bed, one cubic metre covers roughly 10 to 13 square metres. Measure the bed in metres, multiply length by width, then divide by about 11 for a rough cubic-metre figure. Ring the dimensions through when you order and we'll work it out together so you're not left with half a load.
Can the mulch be delivered and spread in Ferntree Gully?
Yes, both. A tipper drop is the default, the truck backs up the driveway and tips the load where it can sit. If barrowing isn't on the cards, add the spreading line and we'll rake the mulch out across your beds before we leave. Works well on bigger jobs and for anyone who'd rather not shift it on a slope.
